INDIGO CHILDREN

If we think about it the original book The Indigo Children by Lee Carroll was written not that long ago. The impact and popularity of this book sparked debate about whether our future generation of children had acquired gifts that have the potential to save our planet and our human race. The initial good-hearted attempts to identify and explain the various highly developed children rested upon setting them apart and claiming their origins to be on the same level as mini-saviors. Like most human behavior based upon curiosity, it is interesting to read the early attempts at quantifying, or identifying, Indigo Children, based solely upon shamanistic divination. In recognizing the remarkable difference of these gifted children, it was only natural to try to name, or classify, these children - marking their life-journey as blessed. The good side of exploring and searching for more complete understanding about this phenomenon is that it has attracted sincere and credible researchers. This is the case with the Indigo Children.

The name "Indigo Children" was applied to these children because some psychics see the very dark blue aura surrounding these children, which in turn peaked their curiosity to explore and inquire further. What this initial discovery uncovered is found in Lee Carroll & Jan Taber's first bookThe Indigo Children. They give a psychological list of attributes that one can easily understand and apply to children that one comes across. One of the major concerns of these writers is that the gifted children would be overly diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Quite a number of people who have read this book have, in turn, given copies of it to parents that they feel have these uniquely gifted children. This created a word of mouth phenomenon that appeared to be on fire, it spread so quickly. After reading this book, I highly recommend reading the next book by PMH Atwater for even more information about these children.

Beyond the Indigo Children: The New Children and the Coming of the Fifth World, by PMH Atwater, states that according to Mayan prophecy, there will be a coming of the Fifth World, or Fifth Sun, moving humanity into ascension on December 21, 2012. This will be a critical "gateway" moment for humanity that will, in turn, lead to new ways of living and new options for humanity. The massive changes ahead will need to have a new human gene pool in order to assure the survival of the species. According to Atwater's research the new children, born since 1982, are the ones who have experienced an actual DNA evolutionary leap. She gives some very grounded and down to earth guidance and tools for those who work with, or seek to understand, these children. She combines objective research with mystical revelation and prophecy to clarify what is actually taking place in our children. According to Atwater, the upcoming years between 2013 and 2029 will be quite intense in terms of humanity achieving its greatest achievements and enduring its greatest challenges. Atwater says that these recently born arrivals, uniquely gifted children will not be alone in their destiny.

Independent of the Indigo Children movement, the highly credible and prolific researcher Atwater had already amassed volumes of case studies of children who had qualified and documented Near-death Experiences (NDE). This extensive and professional research began to yield information about NDE children being quite unique in the following ways, which happened to be strongly similar to the IC (Indigo Children). They include, but are not limited to, the following markers:

  1. Being sensitive to the environment, light, synthetic material, pharmaceutical drugs, etc.
  2. Highly intelligent and prone to highly developed abstract reasoning before mastering concrete reasoning skills.
  3. Uniquely creative and strongly driven to be actively involved in creating.
  4. Empathetic, displaying strong spiritual awareness and psychic.
  5. Many are drawn to be pro-active in the healing arts and drawn to compassionate counseling.

The challenging side to parenting these children is that many of our parenting skills are steeped in philosophies that we learned from our own socialization process. And, like Einstein has been quoted as saying, "You cannot solve a problem with the same mindset that created it." Often, parents of these unique children become frustrated because, unlike that of their children, their method of problem solving has been shown as falling short, especially in understanding their children's world and their way of seeing and moving through that world.

This is where solid information is important as a tool in keeping the communication levels optimal and frustration levels minimal. Choosing the books that contain the most solid information is paramount whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or even sibling to one of these children. This is the point where more solid approaches to best assisting our future gifted, and most excellent children really matter - not to be left to only hope and wishful thinking. Diets are always important to growth. Positive approaches to education are so very essential. However, labeling and putting children upon an unnecessary pedestal are actions that are sure-fire recipes for disaster and long term post-traumatic issues.

As an academic researcher and teacher of sociology in colleges in the Denver metro area, I've learned how important it is to access credible information in interacting and teaching both children and adults. It is with solid assurance that I highly recommend the following material on the phenomenon labeled the Indigo Children:
