Art Nouveau—an international art movement characterized by delicate, elaborate ornamentation and sinuous, sensual lines in everything from jewelry to furniture—emerged during the 1890s and reached its zenith in 1900 at the Paris Exposition Universelle. Its predominant expression was the poster, which was especially suitable for advertisements. Today vintage Art Nouveau posters beautifully promoting an array of products and events, as in the selection presented here, are highly prized collector’s items. Among the artists showcased in this calendar are Jules Chéret, Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen, Louis J. Rhead, and Privat Livemont.
