Synopsis
 
One of the most innovative artist/designers of all time, Alphonse Mucha (Czech, 1860–1939) virtually invented Art Nouveau as it applied to graphic design. In 1894, hired to design a poster for Gismonda, one of Sarah Bernhardt’s theatrical productions, he created a profoundly innovative image that earned him instant fame. After the poster set Paris to talking, Mucha worked prolifically in his new style, producing hundreds of gorgeous objects, from posters, postage stamps, postcards, and panels to jewelry, interior decor, sculpture, and stage designs. This calendar presents a selection of Mucha’s works that emphasize his unique style: strong composition, sensuous curves derived from nature, beautiful women, and natural colors.
