Synopsis
 
To Australian Aboriginal people, the dawn of the world is known as the Dreaming—the time when ancestral beings formed the land and all living things. The Dreaming is also a spiritual web connecting present and past; the ancestral beings are now embodied in the rocks, mountains, and waterholes of the outback, making the landscape as alive as its inhabitants. Aboriginal art reflects this belief system in both symbolism and abstract imagery. Regional artistic styles, although distinctive, are united by common themes, such as traditional narratives and creation stories, as seen in this calendar’s twelve vibrant paintings by contemporary Australian Aboriginal artists.
